I had the honor of being in the tangible soul-field of a true friend yesterday. As I listened to how this beautiful believer held out hope to her friend in need this week, I was compelled to tell her story, and by doing so, share her light.

Without naming names, or medical specifics, in honor of their peace and privacy, I’d like to most importantly try to communicate (for only she really can), her true-life experience that God is real, His power is present, and His Word is balm. Even though this wonderful woman manages marriage, her own busy hair salon, two delightful daughters and numerous pets daily, she didn’t think twice about accompanying her friend on short notice on an out-of-state hospital quest for answers to a brain condition that left her friend worried, depleted, and at times hallucinogenic.

Through the connected days and nights this dear friend served bed-side, she told me that she periodically needed to step out of the room to pray for more strength from God. It filled her with the wisdom that every moment she was offering support, delivering news to family, or supplying her friend’s needs…she did nothing by her own strength. She knew God led her, equipped her, and sustained her for this mission. Best of all, during one of the most difficult periods of her friend’s pain, she reached beyond her own reserves of reassurance, and straight into her Bible for words that heal. Stroking her friend’s arms with a loving touch, she prayed the Psalms over her…and God filled the room. He physically calmed her tremors, renewed her peace, and ushered in remarkable resilience over the next few days.

This true friend is a woman who cared to make God real, not to fuel her own desires, or even her immediate needs…for the sake of her friend. A friend like this who surrounds you with scripture and loves at all times, is as Proverbs 17:17 reminds us, born to handle adversity with grace. Thank you, sweet friend, for sharing your courage as you talked, not knowing how much you illuminate that God is with us, and only He knows the timing of our pain and our healing, whether on earth or in heaven. His Word is living, powerful and a blessing. Like the truest friend of all.

In His Love,

Scripture tells us that God demonstrated His love for us in this way: that while we were still sinners — lost, mistaken, hurtful, confused and imperfect — Christ wasn’t just “nice to us.” He died for us. He gave Himself in love for us, so that we may learn to give in love to others.

According to Galatians 5:14, in truth, all law can be summed up in a simple phrase: Love your neighbor as yourself. It is actually how Jesus says the “world will know us.” Not by our appearance, righteousness, judgment, or achievements. I don’t believe God is counting on me to have a perfect speech prepared, to call out the mistakes of others, or to esteem myself in purity. He wants the world to know Christians by the love we show.

So, why don’t you join me today in meditating on the tiny bit of powerful scripture below, and let’s ask God to help us love the way He wants us to be known.

“By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
John 13:35

Blown away by what God can do on this remarkably cool July day (in the 70s midday in the Southeast!), I was drawn to a quote by an unknown author:

“All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.”

Isn’t it beautiful that amongst all the things we mortals try to pretend we can control, God always has surprises in store? I’d like to thank God today, that complaining about weather does nothing to change His awesome plans. It’s so freeing to know that managing and commanding the seasons is not within our ability — that it’s given continuously as a wondrous gift to treasure and respect. Look up today and no matter what the sky or ground is telling you…remember…it’s such God weather wherever you are.

Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth. — Hosea 6:3

At church yesterday, Pastor David Dwight brought to light that Matthew 5:43-45 may be a calling to the highest level of Christian maturity. Because not only did Jesus make it crystal clear that we are first to love God so that we can love our neighbor…here He tells us to also love our enemies. You see, as David explained, the reason The Greatest Commandment is really twofold is because you simply can’t love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength…and then not being caring, compassionate or loving towards others. You also can’t only love others, while rejecting the Father of love. His love is the oil for our lamps and His ways lead us to true life. So as you refocus this week on changing your heart for Him, remember the gift of prayer. Jesus prayed for all of us, who “did not know what we were doing” as He was crucified. He showed us that our work is not to rely on our self-focused judgment and rules, but to lift others in prayer to the Father, who alone is able to transform us. You may take comfort in knowing, as I did, that David pointed out: Jesus did in fact use the word enemy. He knows it to be a painful reality. And He did not say for us to join our enemies, agree with our enemies, tell lies that we are not angry at what they do. He said to pray for them. That is how we love. We receive our love from the Creator first, so that we can love our neighbors with compassion and prayer. You see, adding hate to hatefulness brings no one to redemption. But lifting even your enemies in loving prayer to the Lord, brings freedom…not only to those you pray for…but to your own soul.
In prayer with you,
Lia

In all honor and humility I just cannot convey the powerful truths woven through scripture from beginning to end the way scholars like Beth Moore can. In the midst of her Revelation study now, I’m thrilled to be taught that (in my own unstudied words) when you accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, you are marked on the forehead with a holy seal (see Ephesians 1:13-14 NIV), seen by the heavenlies forevermore as your preservation through, and protection from, Revelation’s wrath (see Rev. 14:1 NIV). You are known (2 Timothy 2:19 NIV), seen, and held apart by God and the angels — marked “holy” to the Lord. You see, what’s so neat is that the High Temple Priests of the Old Testament signified this new covenant grace by physically wearing these four words inscribed on a plate on their turban-style headress as part of their priestly garments. Everyone who was in their presence knew: they were “Holy To The Lord.” According to Rev. Lynn Fowler’s blog, “in modern language, this was like a sign saying For God’s use only!”

So here’s something beautiful to consider, as Beth Moore suggests…what if when our beloved sons and daughters went out on their first dates, they wore “Holy To The Lord” boldly across their forehead? Well, we at Made to Glorify would like to suggest — why not on a pendant or a ring? If you have accepted Jesus, you are a Royal Priest, marked with a seal under God’s new covenant. Treasure your vessel for His Kingdom work and remember: you are Holy To The Lord.
Grace and blessings,

Good afternoon ladies!

I would just like to thank you for the recent necklace that you made for my nephew. It looks great! I know that he will love it, and even more so because it is so personal. Thank you for prayerfully making a great “made to glorify” piece of jewelry. I look forward to ordering from you in the future.

Beth Moore blew my mind today (as is her way) in Bible Study when she over and over held out a wide open hand and reminded us where our trials belong. Allow me the privilege of asking anyone who is reading this right now to open your hands out wide. Ask yourself what you are holding on to that is greatly challenging your human ability to comprehend. And give it to the One who is able. See, we are on purpose, not able of our human strength to overcome without the supernatural intercession of our Savior. Beth explained that throughout scripture, (and in our lives), God allows us to struggle, to feel an emptiness that can’t be filled by earthly things. So that we will come to Him, hold out a hand to Him, and stop holding on so tightly to the worries of the world. Revelation describes our prayers as incense in a golden bowl before the throne. A sweet aroma to the King. Why not get your grip off your need to control, and give Him dominion over your life? As you pray, try opening a hand for Him to take hold of…asking not for your specific requests to be filled, but that you be a living instrument of His will.
Wishing your fearless love and grace,

When the disciples came to Jesus, asking: “Who is the greatest?”, he gave an answer I was reminded of last Sunday in church.

Because the son of God didn’t go get a famous theologian, scholar, celebrity or priest. He called “a little child to stand among them.”

And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

Our youth pastor at Hope Church reminded me deeply of Jesus’ reflection, when during his sermon he boldly shared his fears, insecurities, doubts and hopes regarding himself, and his role as a modern-day Moses of sorts — among teens He wanted to know are the ones God uses to share His joy.

The Sunday after Easter, he encouraged all of us to keep living our everyday Sundays. Because daily adversity is like a heavenly signpost pointing us in the direction of hope…because the tomb is still empty, the Bible still matters, and the world is still waiting for the witness of young hearts, vibrant with faith and energy.

His passion for youth finding their own joy in God, and his energy for relaying the Word in ways that are funny, relevant, and real are a living reflection of the truth that “whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me.”

Thanks, Pete, for being adult enough to just act like a kid sometimes, and reminding me of God.

Easter is here again, as constant as the Lord, and I love how he shows himself. Recently I had the overwhelming pleasure of meeting with two cherished customers, to adjust a personalized cuff bracelet…and being in the presence of women so beautiful in spirit and in vessel, that they reminded me why Tonja and I do this. Because those who embrace, live by and lean on his Holy Word, actually glow with a glorious radiance. Their faith, and the joyful expression of it, truly glorifies Him. Tracy and Christina, thank you — for letting the 23rd Psalm guide your heart, for wrapping your wrist in the reminder that your mighty God delights in you (Zeph. 3:17), and for sharing the promises and potential of abiding in His truths. We love you, and all our fellow believers…each one helps us experience life the way God intended. So, I’ll borrow a bright wish that Christina sent in a recent email.

This season, Tonja and I are determined to create some lovely pink pieces, but as always, we follow God’s leading and want to make sure that what we create encourages you to testify about His glory. Pink is an optimistic color, honored by millions to represent humanity’s everlasting hope against the challenges of cancer. A natural beauty, it flourishes at weddings, on Valentine cards, and on the kissed cheeks of anyone in love. And although, to my knowledge, “pink” isn’t a color specifically mentioned in the Bible, it is truly a color that glorifies all God had done and will do for believers.

Pink is what happens when (living) water is added to blood (of Christ), signifying the lifelong process of washing us pure. Pink is found in newborn creations. Pink shares a constancy with every sunrise and sunset…reminding us that God is faithful, beautiful, and awesome. When Christians join hearts around the color pink, it is used as a candle during Advent season — representing a shift from repentance and confession, into gladness and celebration. Often called the Candle of Joy, pink ushers in full-bloom anticipation of Christ’s coming. This entire season before Christmas echoes each believer’s journey, from self-examination to longing to new life in Him.

It’s interesting to note the origin of the word pink, which is how “pinking shears” got their name, means to “pierce.” And in the worldly matters of finances, to be “in the pink” describes a situation in which an investor or an economy is in a good, successful financial position…in the best of health or condition.

I wonder if this is why God graces us with the ethereal and calming color pink. To remind us that by holy wounds, we are made wholly well.

So, please…pray for us as we venture into pink…that we might find new small ways to inspire all that God shows us through His hopeful hue.
Joyfully in love,
Lia
